ICS Maugeri Spa Benefit Corporation was born in 2016 from Fondazione Salvatore Maugeri, established in 1965 from professor Salvatore Maugeri as the “Fondazione “Clinica del lavoro” and renamed “Salvatore Maugeri” after his death.

ICS operates in the field of rehabilitation medicine and related cares with the main mission of reintegrate to an active life subjects suffering from acute and chronic diseases.

Over the years, Maugeri has become an internationally recognized center specialized in the care of chronic patients and in the management of their disabilities. The goal set for each patient is to achieve his/her maximal functional capacity to preserve quality of life.

With its 10 Institutes recognized by the Minister of Health as research hospitals, (IRCCS -Istituti di ricovero e cura a carattere scientifico), 8 clinical institutes, in six regions, and 650 resident medical doctors, Maugeri is the Italian leading group in rehabilitation medicine.

The clinical care model developed over 50 years of experience in rehabilitation medicine has now been shaped to meet the criteria of personalized medicine for the contemporary patients to meet the challenge of the multiple comorbidities present in the aging individuals. The Maugeri model of care tailors rehabilitation on the main disease concurrently treating the other pathologies present in each subject.

The specialties in the rehabilitation medicine at Maugeri are neurorehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Maugeri is focused on patients’ treatment, clinical and translational research and specialized teaching about rehabilitation medicine. Research is conducted in more than 50 Laboratories endowed with state of the art equipment to allow advanced scientific research. Most staff members are involved in Academia, teaching at partner universities in Pavia, Milan, Varese aand Naples, and they are dedicated to dissemination of the Maugeri model of clinical rehabilitation.

Many doctors and researchers from neurological and neuromotor department are involved in domestic and international scientific societies like SIRN Società Italiana di Riabilitazione Neurologica, SIMFER Società Italiana di Medicina Fisica e Riabilitativa and EFNR European Federation of NeuroRehabilitation Societies.
