The IRCCS has a Dept. of Neuroscience and Mental Health, including 5 Units:
– neurology and stroke unit
– neurology – Degenerative and Demyelinating Diseases
– neurology – Neuromuscular and Rare Diseases
– neurophysiopathology
– psichiatry

This Dept. is at the top of scientific production, thanks to the collaboration with other Units (Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery, Nuclear Medicine, Ophtalmology, etc).

Scientific research is the mission of the Institution, aiming to translate research from bench to bedside. The aim of the research is the study of pathogenic mechanisms at the basis of neurological diseases, including neuromuscular (muscular distrophy, motor neuron disease, mitocondriopathies, ecc) and neurodegenerative (Alzheimer’ diseases and related dementia, Parkinson’s disease, ecc) diseases.

In parallel, in these disorders, there are ongoing clinical trials and studies for biomarker identification.
